The Perils of Old Media
April’s issue of Conde Nast Traveler had an interesting destination for one of its “10 best places to see right now”. Libya.
“It’s a lead-time situation,” said editor-in-chief Klara Glowczewska. “Libya exploded two days after we went to press.”
This highlights one of the problems with monthly (and even weekly) magazines . . . long lead times. “This has happened to us several times recently,” said Glowczewska. “A feature story with a cover line on Egypt that went to press about two weeks before the revolution happened.”
So what is the answer to this problem in today’s world of real time information? Well, as we migrate from the printed page to consuming content electronically, editorial faux pas can be reduced, if not entirely eliminated. Just one more reason for the rise of the Tablet.
