The Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life
The Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life has become the singular Washington, D.C. event that spotlights civility in politics. Given the current political climate, civility is certainly in short supply. Which is what makes the Prize so purposeful for Allegheny. Rather than lamenting rampant incivility, the college has chosen to shine a positive light on those elected leaders – always one from the left and one from the right – who hold firm to their beliefs, but who also find ways to work in a spirit of civility. It is entirely consistent with Allegheny’s culture, and as a result, has catapulted awareness of the college to new heights.
