On a Roll! Allen & Gerritsen Named One of Massachusetts’ Top Places To Work By The Boston Globe

11.08.11

Allen & Gerritsen (a&g), already ranked number one by Advertising Age as “Best Place to Work” among independent advertising agencies in the United States and listed among the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal, received yet another award for its achievements in creating a positive work environment and outstanding company culture. On November 6, The Boston Globe announced that a&g was ranked #4 among small companies in their annual “Top Places to Work in Massachusetts” list.

The Boston Globe engaged WorkplaceDynamics, specialists in employee engagement and retention, to survey employees at 237 participating companies, receiving completed surveys from 73,813 individuals. Each was asked to grade their organization’s performance according to 24 distinct statements, ranging from “New ideas are encouraged at this company, ’’ to “It’s easy to tell my boss the truth.” In addition, all the employers were invited to complete a 12-question survey on workplace practices. To compile the ranking, each employer was measured according to six factors: Direction, execution, managers, career, conditions, and pay and benefits.

All of the participating employers were placed into one of three size groups, based on the number of employees in Massachusetts, to account for the “small company effect’’ found in such surveys. Small workplaces were defined as those with 100 to 249 employees; midsize workplaces were defined as those with 250 to 999 employees; and large workplaces were those with 1,000 or more employees. All companies were then ranked within their size band.

“Being ranked by the Boston Globe as a Top Place to Work in Massachusetts is a real honor,” said Allen & Gerritsen CEO Andrew Graff. “It’s a testament to the kind of entrepreneurial and creative workplace atmosphere we’ve always tried to provide for our employees.”

The Boston Globe award come on the heels of a&g announcing its move into Boston’s Innovation district in 2012. When the move is complete, the agency is projected to add up to 50 new employees, and build on its strengths as an independent advertising agency for the next generation of marketing.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to Allen & Gerritsen for their inclusion in the 2011 issue of The Boston Globe’s Top Places to Work, and for so clearly demonstrating effective ways to create a positive work environment,” said Chris Mayer, publisher of The Boston Globe and president of the New England Media Group of The New York Times Company.
